How We Help with Hip Pain

Gentle, precise upper cervical care in SoHo, Astoria and Massapequa.

Does your hip ache when you walk, climb stairs or lie down?

Hip pain slows you down in ways you notice all day: getting out of the car, tying a shoe, rolling over in bed. It can make you favor one leg and change the way you walk. Apollo takes a top-to-bottom view, checking how your spine, pelvis and stance fit together before planning any adjustment.

What is hip pain?

Hip pain is discomfort in the joint where the thigh bone meets the pelvis, or in the muscles and tissues around it. You may feel it in the outer hip, the groin, the buttock or down the thigh. Because the hips carry your weight with every step, they respond to how the rest of the body is lined up above and below them.

Sudden severe pain after a fall, or being unable to put weight on the leg, needs prompt medical care.

Common signs include:

  • An ache in the outer hip, groin or buttock
  • Stiffness when you first stand up or after sitting
  • Pain when you walk, climb stairs or lie on one side
  • A limp, or favoring one leg
  • Tightness that runs into the low back or thigh
  • Trouble putting on socks or shoes
  • Wear in the joint over time (arthritis)
  • Irritated tendons or bursae, the small cushions around the joint
  • Muscle strain or tightness from overuse
  • An uneven pelvis, or one leg carrying more load
  • Pain referred from the low back or sciatic nerve
  • A past fall or injury

What causes hip pain?

Hip pain has many sources, and the right care depends on which one is yours. Common ones include:

The spine works as one connected column, from the atlas (C1) at the top down to the pelvis. When the head sits off center, the body often adjusts below it, and the hips may take on uneven load as they do.

How upper cervical care can help

We begin by looking at how you stand and move, not only where it hurts. A posture evaluation with software, muscle assessments and 3D imaging of the upper neck give the doctor a picture of how your head, spine and pelvis are lining up, and whether your weight rests evenly on both legs.

If the upper neck is part of the story, a gentle adjustment aims to help the head sit more evenly, which may let the body stop compensating further down. Our goal is for your hips to feel less strained as your posture settles. A hip joint with advanced wear or a structural problem may also need an orthopedic opinion, and we will tell you so.

  • Top-to-bottom posture check

We look at how your head, shoulders, spine and pelvis line up together, since a tilt at one level often shows up at another.

  • Even weight on both sides

Posture software can show whether you lean toward one leg. Seeing that is the first step toward helping the body share its load more equally.

  • Light, gentle adjustments

Comfort matters when a joint already hurts. Our adjustments use a light touch, with no twisting, cracking or popping, and your care plan is paced to how you feel.

  • Clear about the joint

If your exam suggests arthritis, a labral problem or another cause inside the joint, we will explain it and refer you to the right specialist.
