What We Offer

How We Help with Post-Surgical Recovery

Gentle, precise upper cervical care in SoHo, Astoria and Massapequa.

Healing after surgery, but still stiff, sore or out of balance?

Surgery is a big event for the body. Even when it goes well, recovery can bring stiffness, poor posture from guarding, restless nights and progress that feels slow. Your surgeon leads your recovery, and we never take their place. Once you have their OK, Apollo Upper Cervical Chiropractic can add gentle, paced care that focuses on your posture and the upper neck while you heal.

What is post-surgical recovery?

Post-surgical recovery is the stretch after an operation when your body heals, rebuilds strength and returns to normal activity. It can take weeks or months, depending on the procedure and the person. Along the way, it is common to notice soreness, tightness, swelling or fatigue, and to move differently to protect the area that was operated on.

Call your surgeon’s office about fever, spreading redness or a wound that opens. Call 911 for chest pain or sudden shortness of breath.

Common signs include:

  • Soreness and stiffness around the healing area
  • Tight muscles from guarding or favoring one side
  • Less range of motion than before surgery
  • Fatigue and trouble sleeping comfortably
  • New aches in the neck, back or hips from moving differently
  • A body that feels uneven or out of balance
  • The body protecting the surgical area, which tightens nearby muscles
  • Time spent resting, which can weaken muscles
  • Walking, sitting or sleeping differently while you heal
  • Pain, swelling and the stress of surgery itself
  • Scar tissue forming as the area heals

Why can recovery feel slow?

Healing takes time, and several things can shape how you feel along the way. Common ones include:

When you favor one side, your head and shoulders often shift to match. Upper cervical chiropractors look at the atlas (C1) and axis (C2) because the way the head is carried may influence posture and load throughout the body while it heals.

How upper cervical care can help

Your surgeon’s guidance always comes first. We ask for their OK before beginning care, and we plan around any limits they give you on movement, lifting or the surgical area. Apollo works alongside your surgical team, never instead of it. Please tell us about every procedure, medication and instruction, so we can keep your whole recovery in view.

Once you are cleared, we begin with a gentle exam: a posture evaluation with software, neurological testing, muscle assessments and, when it fits, 3D imaging of the neck. If the upper neck is out of balance, light adjustments with no twisting, cracking or popping aim to support your posture and comfort as your body continues to heal. Our goal is to help you feel more at ease, not to rush past your surgeon’s timeline.

  • Surgeon’s OK first

We ask for your surgeon’s approval before starting, and we follow any limits they set for movement, lifting or the area that was operated on.

  • Paced to your healing

Care moves at the speed of your recovery, not a preset calendar, and we check in often about how you are feeling.

  • Watching for compensation

When you guard one area, other parts work harder. We watch your posture for these shifts, which can bring new stiffness in the neck, back or hips.

  • One team, one goal

With your permission, we are glad to share our findings with your surgeon, physical therapist or primary care provider, so everyone works toward the same recovery.
