How We Help with Autism Spectrum Support

Gentle, precise upper cervical care in SoHo, Astoria and Massapequa.

Looking for gentle support for your child, or for yourself?

Being on the autism spectrum is a different way of experiencing the world. It can bring real strengths along with sensory, sleep and daily-routine challenges. Many families look for gentle, low-pressure ways to support comfort and rest alongside their pediatrician and therapy team. We aim to meet each person where they are, with calm visits and very light adjustments.

What is the autism spectrum?

Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference in how a person communicates, relates to others and experiences the world. It is called a spectrum because it looks different in every person: some speak easily and others use few words, and strengths and needs vary widely. A diagnosis comes from a pediatrician, psychologist or other qualified specialist.

Some people on the spectrum bring honesty, creativity and a close eye for detail.

Families often describe:

  • Strong reactions to sounds, lights, textures or crowds
  • A need for routine, and a hard time with change
  • Different ways of communicating or making eye contact
  • Sleep that is hard to settle or keep
  • Digestive upset or very selective eating
  • Differences in movement, balance or posture
  • Noisy, bright or crowded places
  • Sudden changes to routine or plans
  • Poor or broken sleep
  • Digestive discomfort, which can be hard for a child to describe
  • Aches or tension that a person cannot easily put into words
  • Feeling rushed or not being understood

What can make daily life harder?

We do not claim to know why autism occurs, but some everyday things can make a day more tiring for a person on the spectrum.

None of this is anyone’s fault, and a person on the spectrum does not need to be changed. Our role is to look at physical comfort, such as neck tension, posture and sleep, and to offer care that feels calm and respectful.

How gentle care can support comfort and calm

We do not set out to change who a person is, or to change autism. Upper cervical care is a close look at the very top of the spine, just below the brainstem. With very light adjustments and an unhurried pace, our goal is to support physical comfort, posture and rest, which may help a day feel a little easier.

This care is meant to sit beside your child’s pediatrician and therapy team, never in place of them. Please keep speech, occupational and behavioral therapies and any medication in place, and do not stop or change a medication or therapy without the doctor who prescribed it. What each exam includes is the doctor’s decision, always suited to the child’s age and comfort.

  • At your child’s pace

We move at the pace of the person in front of us, with soft handling and simple, clear explanations. Tell us what helps your child feel at ease.

  • Light, predictable touch

Adjustments use fingertip pressure with no twisting or cracking, and a parent or caregiver stays with the child at every visit.

  • Physical comfort and rest

Neck tension and poor posture can add to restlessness and to rest that does not come easily. We aim to support physical comfort and better sleep, one gentle step at a time.

  • You know your child best

We listen first and welcome your questions. We are one supportive part of a team that also includes your pediatrician and therapists.

What to expect

  1. Your first visit

A consultation with the doctor at the office you choose and a thorough, gentle exam suited to each person’s age and stage, with posture, neurological and muscle checks. The doctor decides which tests, if any, are right.

  2. Your report of findings

The doctor goes over the history and the exam findings with you, and explains a care plan made for you or your child.

  3. Gentle care, checked as you go

Gentle upper cervical adjustments with no twisting, cracking or popping, and regular progress checks so your plan follows how you are doing.
