Tired of aching all over and still not sleeping well?
Fibromyalgia can make everyday things feel like hard work. The pain moves around, the tiredness does not lift with rest, and your thinking can feel slow on the worst days. If this sounds familiar, you are not imagining it. Upper cervical care adds one more thing to look at: strain where your head meets your spine, and how a gentle adjustment there might fit alongside the care you already have.
What is fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that causes widespread pain, tenderness and tiredness. It is thought to involve the way the brain and spinal cord process pain signals, so ordinary sensations can feel more intense than they should. A medical doctor makes the diagnosis, often after ruling out other causes. Symptoms tend to come and go, and many people have good days and hard days.
Common signs include:
- Aching or burning pain in many parts of the body
- Deep tiredness that rest does not fully relieve
- Sleep that does not feel refreshing
- “Fibro fog,” or trouble with focus and memory
- Stiffness, especially in the morning
- Headaches and sensitivity to touch, light or noise
- Differences in how the nervous system processes pain
- A physical injury, such as a car accident or a fall
- Long periods of stress or emotional strain
- Poor or interrupted sleep
- An infection or illness that never fully settled
- A family history of the condition
What causes fibromyalgia?
The exact cause is not fully understood, and it often seems to come from several things at once, including:
Upper cervical chiropractors look closely at the atlas (C1) and axis (C2), where the head meets the spine, because strain there may add to the tension and poor sleep that already come with fibromyalgia. Easing it is one way we aim to support a body that is already overloaded.
How upper cervical care can help
Because fibromyalgia touches the whole body, we do not chase each sore spot. Instead, our doctors look at the point where your head meets your spine. If your exam and 3D images show that the atlas or axis has shifted, a small, specific adjustment may ease strain at the top of the neck, where tension from posture, old injuries and stress can collect.
Many people with fibromyalgia are understandably wary of anything forceful. Our adjustments are gentle, with no twisting, cracking or popping, and your care plan is built around how your body responds. We aim for better rest, less tension and more energy, though results vary. A calmer nervous system may make the good days easier to come by. We work alongside the doctor who manages your fibromyalgia.
Looking past the sore spots
Pain that moves around is hard to chase. We look at the upper neck and the body as a whole, not only at the spot that hurts most today.
Support for rest and tension
Poor sleep and a body that stays tense often go together. Easing strain at the top of the neck may help your body settle more easily at night.
Light touch for tender bodies
Fibromyalgia can make muscles and skin very sensitive. Adjustments to the atlas and axis use light pressure from the hands or a small instrument, never forceful twisting.
Alongside your other care
Fibromyalgia is often managed by a team. Upper cervical care is meant to sit beside the care you already have, so keep working with your medical doctor.
